When Alex and I decided to enter the race it was primarily because it seemed like a good shot to be able qualify for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii and combining that with some nice holidays. A small travel group came together quickly, and thanks to Topteam Sports, the logistics, including flights, transfers, and accommodation, were seamlessly handled, allowing us starters to focus entirely on the race.
The event was exceptionally well-organised. While conditions seemed good on paper for the day, the race proved to be quite challenging. The swim was particularly difficult due to choppy water, feeling more like a survival effort despite being in my best swimming shape. I personally loved the bike course; also, it's tougher than it seems, as the three laps featured uneven roads and constant wind, offering little opportunity for rest. The run followed a similar pattern over four laps, so it ended up being the typical mental game towards the end.
My personal performance on the day wasn't my best—with a difficult swim, a solid bike, and a slow but steady run but it was a successful day overall. I ultimately secured a slot for Hawaii, achieving my main objective, and most importantly, I had a fantastic time with friends and want to give a special shout-out to Alex and Yola for their incredible support.
